Twenty-Fourth English Speech Contest

As every year, Los Pinos organized its Annual English Speech Contest that took place at the school auditorium on Wednesday, November 28th.  Fifteen schools participated this year and all the students did a brilliant job analyzing the question sent by Wouter Simpson from International House “Climate change is no longer some far-off problem; it is happening here, it is happening now.” Barack Obama on climate change. ‘What can we do as individuals to help combat climate change?’

The judges, who collaborated with us by sending a topic and evaluating the candidates, were Mrs. Audrey McCarthy Vice Council of the U.S. Embassy, Mr. Christian Vásquez from Cambridge University Press, and Mr. Wouter Simpson from International House.

The first prize winner was Philippe José Herberth Montalvo from Colegio Menor, the second prize was for Juan José Moncayo González from Colegio Hontanar, and María Paula González from Colegio Terranova won the third prize.

We also wanted to recognize the hard and important job teachers accomplish and a prize was raffled among the teachers from the participating schools.

Raúl Coka Barriga, Librería Studium, Banco del Pacífico, Diners, Compu Supplies and Cambridge University Press were our sponsors who donated interesting prizes for our winners.

We would like to mention and thank Mrs. Audrey McCarthy, who congratulated the school and the students and said “It was a great event, very well run and the quality of the speakers was very impressive.” Finally, we would like to applaud all the participating schools, their students, and especially our representative Anapaula Peñafiel, for their outstanding performances, and say once again that all the participants are winners!
