TBL in the English classroom. When thinking skills and poetry go hand in hand.
Our sophomore students just finished reading “Cry Freedom”, a book which depicts the life and struggle of black anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko. As a book project, students had to work in groups, carefully analyze Biko’s characteristics and come up with a metaphor about him. Finally they had to write a poem creating powerful images and transmitting the importance that this memorable character played in the history of an entire nation. The final products were amazing! Kudos to our poets!!!
